Consistent in Implementing ESG, Adaro Receives a Number of Awards


JAKARTA - A number of awards in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) sector were won by PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk. (ADRO) throughout 2023. 

As for the national level in the environmental field, PT Adaro Indonesia, a subsidiary of Adaro Energy Indonesia, again won Gold PROPER for the sixth time, in the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). 

The Gold PROPER award is the highest rank awarded to companies that are proven to manage the environment, with compliance standards that go beyond what is required, including continuous community development efforts.

Adaro Energy Indonesia President Director Garibaldi Thohir is proud that the company won the Gold PROPER Award for the sixth time. According to him, this was achieved because Adaro is always committed to balancing economic with environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects in its operations.

"In order to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we always strive to do more than what is required (beyond compliance) through several initiatives aimed at realizing excellence in operations, occupational safety and health, environmental protection and social innovation," he said in a press release, Saturday (20/1/2024).

Meanwhile, Adaro continues to make efforts to improve the environment by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This step has the potential to result in energy efficiency, fuel cost savings, and reduced GHG emissions in the coal transportation process.

This step made Adaro chosen as one of eight companies, with the Best Green Business Rating from CNBC Indonesia Research. Adaro is considered an integrated energy company that aims to develop its business towards a better and more sustainable future. 

Previously, Adaro won an award from KLHK in the category of Forest Area Use Permit Holders (PPKH) with the Best Watershed Rehabilitation Performance. Adaro is considered successful in rehabilitating watersheds with the best performance, whose total watershed land rehabilitation reached more than 8,000 hectares by 2023. 

Furthermore, Adaro also won the 2023 Republika CSR Award for the Sustainable Economy category. One of the programs carried out is the Mamanda Village (Independent and Empowered Village) in Balida Village, South Kalimantan, which has been running since 2018. Through this program, Adaro increases community participation in accordance with village potential and increases the role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes).

Especially for social empowerment programs, Adaro also won the Change The World 2022 award held by Fortune Indonesia, for its green initiatives program. This award is given to companies operating in Indonesia that have programs that are able to have a positive impact. As well as opening new opportunities for the community, employees, the environment, as well as having a real impact on its performance and reputation. 

At the global level, Adaro won the prestigious "Asean Coal Awards 2023, Category "Winner of the Coal Handling and Distribution" in the Asean Energy Awards from The Asean Center for Energy (ACE) in collaboration with the AFOC Council. The winners of this category are companies that have successfully implemented best practices in terms of environmental management including reducing CO2 emissions.

In addition, Adaro realizes that employees are an important resource for the sustainability of the company. Because of this commitment, Adaro was included in "Forbes World's Best Employers 2023". 

Adaro is one of three companies in Indonesia included in Forbes World's Best Employer. While in the Forbes Global ranks, Adaro occupies the 348th position out of 700 companies in the world.
