MEMR: PBNU Mining Permit Undergoing Administrative Processing

Jakarta,- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, said that the special mining business permit (IUPK) to the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) would be issued soon. Currently, this permit is entering the administration stage.

"It's being processed [IUPK for PBNU] in the administrative process," said Arifin when met at the DPR RI Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (19/6/2024).

The IUPK, said Arifin, will be issued based on recommendations from the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). He also confirmed that the IUPK would be issued this year.

"This is the recommendation from the investment [BKPM]," he said.

As is known, the Minister of Investment/BKPM, Bahlil Lahadalia, explained that the IUPK that will be given to PBNU is the Special Mining Business License Area (WIUPK) former Coal Mining Concession Work Agreement (PKP2B) belonging to PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).

PT KPC is a subsidiary of PT Bumi Resource Tbk (BUMI), which is a mining company belonging to the Bakrie Group. Based on Tirto's research, PT KPC has a mining concession area of 84,938 ha in Sangatta, Benyamin, and Rantau Pulung, East Kutai, East Kalimantan.

Furthermore, the business entity that will be formed by PBNU will be invited to work on mining land from the reduction of PT KPC's land. Even so, Bahlil was reluctant to mention the location of the PT KPC mining concession that would be given to PBNU, along with the area of land that could be utilized.

Apart from that, Arifin also revealed that his party had prepared six ex-PKP2B lands to be managed by six religious community organizations (Ormas).

The former companies that will be managed by mass organizations are PT Arutmin Indonesia, PT Kendilo Coal Indonesia, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, PT Adaro Energy Tbk, PT Multi Harapan Utama (MAU), and PT Kideco Jaya Agung.

"This is the government's effort to provide opportunities for non-profit religious community organizations," said Arifin during a media briefing at the Directorate General of Oil and Gas Office, Jakarta, Friday (7/6/2024).

Arifin said that in the future only six PKP2Bs would be prepared, which would be allocated to each religious mass organization, specifically NU, Muhammadiyah, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist.

"One religion, one big organization, what pillars, for example Muslims, two NU and Muhammadiyah, because they are big and have a long history. Then there are Catholics, KWI, Protestants, PGI, then there are Buddhists and Hindus," he said.
