PT SDE Officially Operates and Produces, the Largest Underground Coal Mine in Indonesia

South Kalimantan has finally made history in the field of coal mining. Namely, the first large-scale underground coal mine (underground coal mining) in Indonesia belongs to PT Sumber Daya Energi (SDE). The underground coal mine located in Sungai Durian Village, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan officially operated commercially and went into production, Monday (18/12). This coal mine is under the management of the Qinfa Group, a mining business tycoon from China.

Xu Da, President Director of Qinfa Group appreciates the support of the Indonesian Government and regional governments for PT SDE. “We are happy and grateful to be given the opportunity to introduce the paradigm in the mining sector in Indonesia. “We are committed to implementing new standards in coal mining activities, and are committed to having a positive impact on local and national economic growth,” said Xu Da.

PT SDE invested USD 300 million to build this underground coal mine. Since the construction phase in 2021, until now investment will continue to be placed into the future. Based on feasibility studies and environmental documents, PT SDE has a maximum coal production capacity of up to 20 million tons per year. “This is what makes PT SDE the largest underground coal mine in Indonesia,” he said.

The inauguration of the PT SDE underground coal mine was attended by the Economic and Trade Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, Wu Zhiwei and the Director General of Minerals and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM), Bambang Suswantoro. As well as, Deputy for Investment Services at the Ministry of Investment, Achmad Idrus, representatives of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government, Kotabaru Regency Government and Tanah Bumbu (Tanbu) Regency Government.

“Hopefully the presence of PT SDE can make a positive contribution to the people of Kotabaru Regency and South Kalimantan in general. “Especially in absorbing labor and improving the economy in the area around the mine,” hoped the Regional Secretary of Kotabaru Regency, Said Akhmad.
